For 18 years now, in addition to the STOLPERSTEINE, STOLPERSCHWELLEN are also being installed more and more often. There are places where hundreds or perhaps even thousands of STOLPERSTEINE would need to be installed, but where space is insufficient or the sheer number would be overwhelming. In such cases, a STOLPERSCHWELLE is an appropriate solution.
On a STOLPERSCHWELLE, a few lines can document what happened at this location. Here we show two examples of already installed thresholds:
RÖCHLINGSCHE EISEN- UND STAHLWERKE 1941–1944
ZWANGSARBEIT FÜR DEN DEUTSCHEN ENDSIEG
TAUSENDE MÜSSEN UNTER ZWANG FÜR DIE DEUTSCHE RÜSTUNG ARBEITEN
UNTERERNÄHRT – MISSHANDELT – ARBEITSUNFALL – KRANK
HUNDERTE VERLIEREN IHR LEBEN
Völklingen, verlegt 2014
HEIL- UND PFLEGEANSTALT LEIPZIG-DÖSEN 1933 – 1945
AB 1934 WURDEN HIER 604 MENSCHEN ZWANGSSTERILISIERT
1939 – 1943 WURDEN HIER 624 KINDER IN DER 'KINDERFACHABTEILUNG' ERMORDET
JUNI 1940 – AUG. 1941 WURDEN VON HIER AUS 860 BEHINDERTE MENSCHEN 'VERLEGT'
ERMORDET IN PIRNA-SONNENSTEIN – 'AKTION T4'

The STOLPERSCHWELLEN are based on the dimensions of the STOLPERSTEINE (width 96 mm and height 100 mm). A threshold can measure between thirty centimeters and one meter, allowing up to 5 lines of text. The installation is done similarly to that of the STOLPERSTEINE, set flat in concrete.
Each STOLPERSCHWELLE is individually planned and designed, just like the STOLPERSTEINE. Since a threshold requires more preparation and has a significantly longer production process than a STOLPERSTEIN, please contact our scheduling coordinators early to arrange an appointment:
Susanne Weeber (for Germany)
Alexander Stukenberg (for BeNeLux)
Nikola Brunner & Andreas Ullmann (for Austria and Switzerland)
Dr. Anne Thomas (for all other countries)
More than 50 STOLPERSCHWELLEN in Europe now commemorate historically significant sites from the Nazi era.
